Tell ya what I'd like...

I'd like to be able to log on to the dialogscript.com registered
user site. I have 3 browsers (IE 4.72, NS 4.08, and OffByOne)
and could finally log on about a month ago with OB1, but can't
even do that now. Can't dload stuff from the non-registered
section either.

The site used to work fine, but has been a nightmare ever since
they went to the "wild blue" theme - woulda thought SADE's goal
was to sell stuff to everybody, but maybe not...

What do you mean? Do your browsers you have support user authentication?
The registered users section most likely uses .htaccess/.htpasswd

That's what you get for using crusty old browsers Laughing The OB1 uses
it's own browser engine, possibly based off the same engine that Tommy
used for the old VDS browser dll a few years ago. That engine has been
upgraded several times since then and is a good engine, but may not be
totally up to date with the current standards.

As for the comment regarding SADE trying to sell or not to sell only
affects those who use crusty old browsers that aren't supported
by the internet anymore, except for 3rd world countries just learning
how to make basic html pages based on the 1.x standards. Might as
well be using Cello or Mosaic. Razz

Obviously we're not talking about the majority online, that's for sure.

Upgrade or get left behind like the old wash boards of days gone by.

And that's the bottom line! 'cause crazy old Garrett says so! Twisted Evil

I'm using the latest version of Mozilla and I can't even scroll the pages on www.dialogscript.com! It keeps flashing and resetting the page to the top. Confused

I figured this would be the response. Do you guys actually think I'm
the only one left using IE4? I still see questions at tech support sites
about Win.3x - besides, IE5 (and prolly later) interfered with some
other programs I use.

Strange that I can log onto MS, Borland, and anywhere else I can
think of, but not SADE's dialogscript.com.

Am close to agreeing with Arcray's opinion of VDS support. Rolling Eyes

I haven't checked, but doesn't Microsoft, etc. use server-side authentication
methods? For example, the author login on VDSWORLD uses PHP to
authenticate users and not things like .htaccess/.htpasswd.

Personally I think the current www.dialogscript.com needs to cut it with
the "blinds" effect and get and do a little bug correction on it's web site.

But, Garrett, didn't you say you were going to re-do it soon?

Of course, and I will always expect you to give negative feedback about
SADE and newer versions of VDS, as you always have. Are you expect cheers and kudos for negativity all the time?.

You just never have anything nice to say, you're always so negative
about SADE and any release of VDS beyond 3.x, and it can really just
get on the nerves of people. Shocked

That I did in prior threads. Regardless of that, some people have nothing
better to do than nag about these things. Talk negative about things and
then take offense when someone gets negative with them about it.

I am only responsible for the design, not the JS being used beyond the
html code for the design. The blue site and JS menu were not of my
doing. I'll ask them if they can grab another menu script from somewhere
instead of using the current one. Hopefully SADE will pick one that is more
compatible for the different browsers... Though I can't say it'll be
compatible for crusty old browsers.

I think all authentication systems on the internet are server side... Otherwise they can be eaily hacked...

Maybe ya never heard of cause and effect? I'm not the only one
that has problems with the site, but no matter what problems are
brought up (whether by me or others), the "support" we mostly
hear is for SADE, NOT the customers.

I never expected "cheers and kudos", just solutions to problems
and bugs - also: NEWS FLASH - just because a bug doesn't bother
you doesn't mean it's not important to others. Of course, if they
were givin' me free software I might not be so picky either.

This is an absolute falsehood (to put it mildly...). I've recommended
VDS 4 to folks, and had dialogscript.com in my signature for a good
while at various sites. Some of the folks here first heard about VDS
from seeing my signature (or recommendation of VDS) on other sites.
I also try to make my code examples VDS4 compatible when I can.

BTW, I didn't bring up VDS versions this time (but ya just can't
let stuff go can ya?). I was only talkin' about the site (which at
one time I was actually glad you were supposed to take over),
and got the same response from you as usual - badmouthing
the software I use.

I ain't the only one gettin' on people's nerves.

Hi Mac,

Have you ever sent an email to support@sade.net to inform them about that issue? Thats a first step to do I think.

Also I noticed that more and more people here are being very negative about VDS, SADE, etc.. Why ? just because of some issues with the support. I didnt say nothing in the past. But now Im getting frustrated cause everytime there's a post about some NICE things about VDS 5, the replies start off ok and then negative aspects comes in. Look at this thread for example IT WAS A JOKE... And the other part is, that we are TEAM MEMBERS of VDSWORLD by the way. We are here to help VDS users BTW, not to bring down VDS. Again, you got complaints about VDS, email them support@sade.net.

Imagine new users coming to the number #1 forum for VDS, seeing people complaing about VDS. Do you think thats good to build up a bigger and better community? I think not.

Sorry about this guys, but I couldnt take it anymore.

Thanks and have a good day at VDSWORLD

Yes Marty I have, and got back automated responses
saying they received the message - and nothing else.
Like I mentioned, there's a "cause and effect" here.

As far as this thread being a joke, it's the reason I tried
to login to dialogscript.com to see if there was any news
about VDS5, and found out I can't login.

You said "We are here to help VDS users BTW, not to bring
down VDS." - Does that mean we can't mention known bugs
and problems? I thought that would be helping VDS users...

Cheers, Mac Smile

You guys ever here the phrase the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If ya
don’t complain loud and often enough no one fixes your problem. How
would you guys like it if you gave your software to someone for beta
testing and they reported no problems, later you find there were al ton of
bugs you never heard about that could have been fixed. Companies (and
programmers) need (and usually want) people to complain so they can
better themselves, any other attitude is simply bad business. It is then
the responsibility of that company or programmer to determine how and
where improvements should be implemented. If the company chooses to
ignore the feedback they get from users there will most likely be a
financial impact. This isn’t a popularity contest it’s a business, for me at
least. While I may not be as vocal I totally agree with Mac. Even if I
didn’t he is entitled to his opinion (as are you guys) without being
attacked, he has proven time and again he is a valuable asset to the
VDS community and it’s advancement.

We should be thanking Mac not putting him down. If it wasn’t for him we
would likely still have the list savefile bug in VDS5. This would have
stopped me from buying the product as it did with VDS4. I no longer
even go to the SADE web site because of all the problems Mac has
already mentioned. I think SADE would prefer to hear about issues that
will prevent people from dealing with them.

THANKS MAC!
