Working on a program i am writing, i came across a couple of "problems" i'd like help with:
1. what does the PAINT style in DIALOG CREATE do?
2. i am continually frustrated by the fact that the VDS help file does not contain all the styles that a dialog element can have - gggrrrrrr! For example, it took me around 1 hour of analyzing one of the sample programs to find out how to have an interface coloured. The syntax for the DIALOG CREATE style being COLOR YELLOW. The different cursor styles also are not listed in the help file. Neither is the TRANSPARENT style for text elements. Has anybody compiled a comprehensive list of all the dialog elements and their styles with a brief explanation of what they do?
3. how can i have a group element that is transparent just like the text one?

For your first question, see the help file:

This occurs when it is resized (if RESIZABLE), restored or when any part of the dialog surface that has formerly been obscured by another window now becomes visible. This style is only likely to be of use to writers of extension DLLs that draw directly on to the surface of the dialog. It serves no useful purpose in any other context, since VDS itself takes care of redrawing all dialog elements that need to be redrawn. Because VDS events are not queued, it is recommended that resizable windows that also use PAINT events should treat both RESIZE and PAINT events the same, i.e.: the two labels are placed one after the other so the same event processing code is executed. Otherwise one or other event may be lost and the corresponding code not executed.

For your second question, here is an excerpt from the help file:
| Quote: | DIALOG CURSOR,<parameter> sets the cursor for the dialog to the selected one. Possible parameters are : WAIT, HAND, UP, CROSS, IBEAM, NODROP, DRAG, HSPLIT, VSPLIT, WE, NWSE, NS, NESW, SIZE (NT only) and CUSTOM. This last choice must be followed by an extra parameter which must be a valid cursor file path (.cur or .ani). The command DIALOG CURSOR sets it back to the default cursor. To provide feedback to the user, your script program should show the hourglass cursor or whatever required cursor, whenever it will take some time to respond to a user action.

For your third question, I do not believe that GROUP elements have the transparent style.

Thanks for that. My mistake with the PAINT style - it is indeed mentioned in the help file and i did read it once a long time ago. I did do a search recently for PAINT in the help file and found nothing!
Thanks too for the cursor style. What i meant was, why can't all the possible styles be mentioned in the DIALOG ELEMENT part of the help file as there are many entries missing. Even under STYLE, i find information missing!
Never mind, i guess that over time i will come to know what styles are available with what dialog element.
