Hello all,

Because I have a rather old PC over here which takes a while to load, I bounded some examples of Garrett and CodeScript together to make "the Hibernater". It is a program which uses the standard hibernate function of Windows XP, and expands it a bit by first closing all unwanted programs (like Internet Explorer and Notepad) and which "defragmentates" the memory before it will put your computer into sleep. This way, you can get the feeling of a "new boot" when you restart your computer, while it only takes a few seconds to load... Smile

Does anybody want to test if it works at his system, so that I can make improvements to it before I distribute the program? To do so, just download and unzip the attachment and run the "Hibernater.exe" file. It will automaticly put an icon on your desktop, which you can remove when you've stopped testing.

I only tried the "Clean current session" option because I don't have time
to test the actual hibernate functions now, but I received a runtime error.

FreezingFire, thanks for testing. The program was trying to use a list which had no value. With all other options, I already had made sure this couldn't happen, but I forgot to do so with the last one you tried. An updated version is now uploaded, could you try it again please?

Just wondering, what does it do during memory defragmentation?

That's some of Garrett's code. It's just like with formatting a disk. When a program's memory segments are spread far away from eachother, it will run slower than if it was all in a single line. My program just fills the memory with random characters, so that all programs are forced to write the things they had in memory to disk. When my program is done running, only the programs who really need the things they had in memory, will put it back. This way, all unused data will be discarged and new memory will be available... Smile

Ahh, yes.

I made a memory program with that code back in the day.
I just wondering since it really got my harddrive cranking. Wink

But
that's probably due to the script having pushed almost a GB into the
paging file. Smile
