i'm thinking of writing a program that would generate possible misspelling of words and was wondering about the rules of misspelling i should consider incorporating
i have heard of using the idea of key proximity so that NOEL could be misspelt as MOEL or NIEL and so on
i thought also of "p" inside a word being doubled so that DEVELOPED becomes DEVELOPPED, likewise with "m" and "l"
i also thought of vowels sometimes going missing so that PROGRAM becomes PRGRAM or PROGRM
any other ideas?
thanks in advance

I think the problem with most spelling checkers is that they assume that people can type perfectly, and that they have typed what they intended to type.
I never use a spell checker as I can spell perfectly, but I have never learned to type. Consequently I often hit the adjacent keys to the ones I want, or I hit two keys at once. I nearly always type "norepad" instead of "notepad" or "pront" instead of "print."
I would love to see a checker that changed what I type to what I meant to type, based on the proximity of the keys I hit to the ones I should have hit. _________________ The Tech Pro

Woh, I think that's a real good idea Julian! Never seen something like that before, so there might be people who can use it...
But to stay on topic: Serge, maybe it's also an idea to let the program create mistakes like "youre" and "I'am" ? _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

Jules,
For just that purpose I (mis)use Macro Express from Insight Software.
If I mispell a word constantly like your "norepad" I put in a shortkey "norepad" that automatically changes the text to "notepad".
Although Macro Express can do lots of more things I mainly use it as a sort of spellchecker that works in any Windows program.
