I think this must be possible by using the shell32.dll... perhaps have a look at MSDN.

You can call the DOS command "subst" to assign an (external) drive to a virtual, local disc. I don't know if this is what you ment, but with this method you can change a network URL like this:
\\computername\drivenumber\
Into this:

subst.exe will not work on network paths, only local paths. You would
have to use net.exe for mapping a network drive. But I'm not sure you
can create a share with that either. There use to be a file called share.exe
in dos, but I'm not sure that still included in the 9x and NT distros. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

No, I meant, you can't use subst.exe to make a virtual hd on another
computer on the network. You can only make them from the local
computer only. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse things.
Keep in mind though, just because you create a virtual, doesn't mean
it's automatically shared. If you create a virtual from inside a directory
that is already shared, then yes, it will be available on the network, but
if it's not, then you still need a way to mark that directory as a share. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |
