Does anyone know of anywhere where I can put my VDS CGI Scripts on the web? The last place I tried ([url]free.prohosting.com[/url]) allowed CGI on their servers, but only .cgi and .pl...you can't use executables as CGI because of the way their servers are set up. Crying or Very sad

Where can I put my VDS CGI Scripts so they can sucessfully execute?

Thanks a lot for any information! Very Happy

Have you tried renaming your exe's to .cgi?

Well, that works provided their server is NT or Win based and not Nix based.

I've used .cgi for exe's on a couple of IIS servers before and I think also on one Win32Apache server.

PK knows of a low cost hosting service that he's used before and ran VDS exe's from.... I can't remember the name or URL though.

Hi Garrett,

I tried renaming the .exe to .cgi with no luck. Apparently it is on an Apache server, but does not execute, even when renamed as .cgi

Here's the error it gives me:
Code:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete
your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@free.prohosting.com and
inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have
done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Apache/1.3.12 Server at hammer.prohosting.com Port 80

I also tried [url]cgi-bin.spaceports.com[/url] but they only allow .cgi or .pl extensions, not even the runtime DLL...

I suppose I will keep looking, but thanks anyway. Smile

P.S.: If anyone knows a place that would execute VDS CGI scripts, tell me! Smile

Thanks,

This is the one Prakash was using before:

http://www.parcom.net/

Please note that it's a paid host. I doubt you would find any free hosts which would allow .exe CGI, if they're even running on Windows at all.

Yes, that's it.. Parcom... Mind you, it is a paid host, but the price is seriously inexpensive.

You could always goto downloads.com and get a freeware webserver.
That what i did when i was testing my pl scripts.

All you need is a web server such as website or analogx which support cgi/perl etc, and a copy of perl which you can get from www.activestate.com.

Hope thats of some help to you...

Thanks...I agree, parcom.net is a good price for hosting...it seems as if it is reliable too! Smile

I will also probably try using a webserver of my own...the only downside to that is that you must have your computer running all the time for it to work...but I will look into it.

By the way, I tried some places that I can't stand; they never worked! Just to save some people some time, here is a list of them:

http://www.xoasis.com
http://www.php50.com
http://www.spaceports.com
--------
http://free.prohosting.com <-- This one is a great place, but they did not allow .exe cgi scripts coded in VDS...

Thanks again... Smile

I tried the Basic package. The only problem I had is that I had to use FrontPage to setup the cgi for some reason.
