Hi Guys,

From WebProNews Update - February 19, 2005:

Quote:
Yesterday, Microsoft announced the upcoming update of their web
browser, Internet Explorer, which will be updated to 7.

Promising better security, IE 7 looks to address the number of
vulnerabilities contained by older versions of the browser. The new
version is expected to more effectively combat spyware, malware,
and phishing attacks.

I wonder if IE 7.0 will be compatible with the VDS Browser Element (i.e. the vdsbrw.dll)? If not, then do you think the DLL will be updated?

Just wondering... If not, then existing apps. could become obsolete...

Thanks,

- Boo

Who knows? I expect it will have to be, because a lot of apps use the browser OCX as a program element. The VDSBRW50 works with IE 5.01 and up, so it uses a lowest common denominator of features. But concerns about compatibility was one of the reasons for incorporating it as an extension and not part of the VDS runtime itself.

It more then likely will be compatible. I doubt Microsoft will up and change the OCX integration since OCX has nothing to do with the security problems with IE.

It's the actual ActiveX controls which can be installed remotely onto your computer without your authorization. Setting 'BINARY AND SCRIPT BEHAVIORS' in Internet Explorer's settngs tab to DISABLED will protect you from 100% of those activex issues. But it will cause you to add some sites into the TRUSTED portion of IE that require binary/scripting operations (ie. Windows Update site, msn.com etc.).
