Is it just me or is their a file size limit in Windows ME?

I have a file I loaded in to a list which was 2055815 Bytes.
Then I saved it and it was reduced to 1085800.

Where as under Windows XP this happened.
File is 8498556 bytes.
Saved file 8498556 bytes.

So my question, is there a limit in ME?
