I believe that VDS is listed at download.com
...
But I agree strongly that VDS is improperly marketed - if more work was
put into marketing it, a lot more money would be made for everybody,
but we can't do a lot to market it by ourselves, the web site needs more
keywords/etc.
Good keywords might be:
| Code: | | vds, visual dialogscript, dialog, script, design, programming, program, win32, commercial-research, RAD, IDE, editor, syntax, easy, fast, language, programs, windows, dll, kernel32, wininet, winsock, ftp, internet, extension, vdsworld, etc. etc. |

i agree with your choice of keywords BUT search engines also see if the keywords stated are mentioned in the body of the web page...hence the need to be very smart about the use of keywords and their use/inclusion in the body of the page
could garrett, who has contacts with the cr people, raise the issue of the title, keywords and description as that alone should raise the ranking of the vds page to a higher level?

Hi All,
It seems that I have started something here I just wanted to let everyone here know that I was not trying to single out any one person or a group of people. I do appreciate everyone's comments on this subject. They give me lots to think about. I don't build DLL's for VDS just for the money. I also build them for the simple reason that I can. From the first moment that I looked at VDS 2.2 I saw potential. The potential to build great and wonderful things. Even with all it's limitations I saw avenues that could lead to awesome creations. I seen then what I see now even more clearly. I guess I have more vision than some. Rome was not built in a day and it was not built by one person but by a group of people and I think that VDS (ie... our Rome) could be so much more (...I hope this is a bit more eloquent Mac ) Anyway as I was saying and I guess my point here is that while yes it's closer to being possible to duplicate VDS DLL's with VDS 5 I think this route is border line reverse engineering and should be re-approched. Use the new abilities of VDS 5 to do new and better things. Don't use it just to duplicate someone elses work or effort. Do I think that CodeScripts Richedit DSU is a duplicate no not at all but his efforts could have been more constructive if he had made a Richedit DSU that used PK's DLL as a foundation for a syntax coloring edit control These are but my humble thoughts as someone with a very little experience in these areas. _________________ Home of

Personally I have bought a license to almost every VDS DLL out there,
but I think that calling coding your own equivalent to a DLL "borderline
reverse engineering" is taking it too far - it has absolutely nothing to do
with using code from the DLL.
I'm concerned too about the sales of DLLs and actually hesitate releasing
code sometimes because I don't want to harm the sales of other DLLs
out there.
Perhaps once the "DSU Market" stabilizes (once more people upgrade to
VDS 5 and the problems with security have stopped) DLL authors should
focus their attention on making new VDS DSU's, as I think DLLs will be
rarely used, if not at all by the time VDS 10 comes out - which is about 5
years from now if a new release comes about every year or so.
... And a little off-topic here, something I think would be cool to have in
VDS is the capability to create DLLs with VDS. _________________ FreezingFire

Hi everyone
I wanted to add ability to color individual items in a list and List view( aka Table) in my dll. I have taken mountainsome (believe me) efforts to convert vds list to that style but runtime reverts it back.
Much much easier for me is to add my own controls and apply my styles to it (I will take every effort to cripple my control of some feaures so that it won't affect the sales of the other dll - Gylphs will not be provided if anyone wishes me to do so).
If any one thinks this is stealing etc (already an extension exists for lists in vds - but it doesn't have all these features) please let me know I will drop the idea. _________________ Regards

Another idea would be to make it mandatory for all the DSU/dlls uploaded on VDSWORLD (author account) to undergo a preview waiting period of 7 days during which time only info about the file is shown but it is not available for download.
During this time any author can complain if the dll/DSU imitates the features in his DLL and he has objection to it. If any objection is encountered the file will be removed and the author informed/warned accordingly (name of person who complains will not be disclosed).
If the person does not have a author account he need to post the topic on forum and obtain permission in the same way.
This doesn't provide a solution when the author updates and adds new features as it gets too cumbersome to be practical.
BTW I had asked the author of the dll providing Richedit control about the features I am provding in my DSU before posting it. _________________ Regards

Didn't Bill Gates get in trouble for this sort of thing?
I think they call it "monopoly"...

Oh give me a break.
VDS DLLs only do something 10 other DLLs and/or languages do.
But I shouldn't do it myself because the DLL exists?
Bottom line is, if you don't like the VDS DLL market, stay out of it.
I want everyone to know this is still a discussion and I'm not trying to personally offend anyone...I hate you all equally _________________ -Sheep

I honestly don't think you'll see too many dll developers jump over to start making dcu's, atleast not large complex dsu's which take months of work.
Dsu's are also still limited and are no where near as powerful as a dll will ever be. After all you are still writing directly in VDS syntax thus there are many limitations and restrictions of only doing what is possible in vds.
In regards to CodeScript's idea of not allowing others to post their work - while I respect his opinion I disagree. Limiting people from what they are allowed to publish is just plain wrong; if the software/work is legally created and breaks no copyright or other laws then it should freely be published as the author wishes not based on what other competitors think. |

PGWARE has made a Valid point there.
Personally even I do feel that restricting someone's legitimate work is
incorrect although in a buisiness like environment people may be more than tempted to think otherwise.
I only suggested the above as a way of implementing things should most
people here feel so. _________________ Regards

If a DLL and a DSU exists which have the same functions, a lot of people will choose the DLL just because it looks 'safer'. I myself don't really want to use too much API code when I make a program, just because I am afraid it won't work on every PC: something which I don't think about DLLs. Just an example: I've made some API code which could download a file from the internet using the POST or GET method. I know it works on my computer, but I don't want to risk that it won't work on others... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

hi,
while i understand codescript's motivation in his suggestion, i have to disagree with him as it would kill free market and competition
surely, dll developers should be free to develop whatever dll they want without concern for existing dll's
also, consider the end user...if an end user wants to use some of the features that codescript is going to add to his new list dll but because it is a crippled version, the end user will then have to use the existing list.dll to get the other features he wants...that's 2 dll's that will need to be part of the program...and this translates to possible bloating of the end product program
i really don't feel comfortable with the idea that codescript is going to cripple some of his code so as to not duplicate what is available in another existing dll
also, i rarely use all the new commands and fuctions available in a dll unless it is a simple one...for example, i mostly only use the richedit part of pg's vdsobj.dll...consequently, i may choose codescript's dll in the future because of the individual list items being colour coded and if he offers glyphs as well, then i may make use of that feature...however, if the glyphs features are not there, i most likely will not get the existing list.dll because for me glyphs are not a priority where as coloured list elements is
competion is tough to bear when someone brings out a better dll than you but isn't that the way it is for all of us and we all have to learn to cope with that
i sympathise with dll developers and their desire to be recognised for their work and to be $ compensated...but i don't think that it is right to deliberatly omit from a new dll code that will make the dll do what another dll already does

great news...the www.dialogscript.com homepage has had its tags properly edited and it looks much much better from the point of view of a search engine
for anyone interested in having their web site analyzed from the point of view of a search engine, give the following a go http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/ the information you get in return is of great value if you want to have your web site taken seriously by search engines
this brings me back to the vds homepage...while it has been greatly improved, a little more work needs to be done so as to be truly search engine friendly...and then the vds homepage should be ranked higher by the search engines which in turn should drive more visitors to the vds site
another site you might want to check out is http://www.submitexpress.com/linkpop/ to see how many other sites link to yours...
i know it's off topic but i'm so glad that vds fixed their page that i wanted to share with you all how i checked up on it quickly and efficiently
