Okay, I see there is no more feedback so soon I'll be releasing another beta with the save game thing fixed, and dr dread's suggestions 1 and 7 as well... Dr Dread I need a little favor =) Do you think you can make 16x16 pixels symbols of each chess and unit, both in black and in white, and with the background color = to the one of the A,B,C and 1,2,3,...etc images of your tileset? Remember, it's your suggestion ^_^ ...please

Okay, no problem. I already made those tiles for my tileset. They are 12 - a symbol for each unit, colored in each of the 2 colors, black and white. I put my symbols in your tileset as well but when you send me the good ones I will replace. The symbols show in a bar that is right to the right (Razz) of the game board, so between the events and help bar and the frame that says A B C D E ... . Also please send me a new version of the message pic that says "Invalid move (you are in check)". To be correct it must say something like "This move is invalid because it will LEAVE you in check", this because that message is displayed not only when you are in check and try to do something other than putting the king in safety but also when the king is safe and you do something that would leave it threatened....

But I can't really understand much of it, could you explain me with some examples?

Update on progress: Implemented official long chess notation (can be used optionally). Added lots of menus with cool options (ssmenu.dll). Coming next:

* Game record and play system (first step to internet implementation because recorded games will be ascii files with a sequence of commands from the tcp\ip subprotocol I created for the game).
->BETA 3 RELEASE HERE
* Internet play (will begin with server mode and switch to client mode programming when needed, and then implement +- at the same time)
-> BETA 4 RELEASE HERE
* Time-limited games
* User guide (With program help and chess learning tutorial)
-> FINAL BETA RELEASE HERE

Third beta released! Now using vdsipp.dll and ssmenu.dll, and with a new tileset (starwars-themed). Lots of internal changes, also some minor changes in the engine. The game may be quite slow in processors under 1 ghz (time to perform each move) but I think I will be able to speed it up before the next beta.

Added lots of customization in the display, including official notation, and also record game engine, able to record games to files containing scripts of movement commands - It is possible to continue recording a game to the same record file, when loading a game, and even to record two games to the same file one after the other. You can playback recorded games, automatically or manually (step by step). NOTE: The controls for the playback engine are in the top left corner of the board (during playback). They're tiny and a bit hard to notice Smile

I will be sending the download URL as a private message to all beta testers. Dr Dread I lost the tileset update you emailed to me =) Please could you send me again? Or even make the change in the version that comes with this third beta. Thanks a lot.

One more thing, the zip file is now 1.1mb instead of 550k =)

One last note:P If you want to record a game of yours you must 'start' recording before you start playing. This is an attempt to avoid people starting game recording while playing, which wouldn't be a very good idea because the pieces would not be placed in the board so when people tried to play the record they'd just see a white grid in which the program would be moving empty places Razz You can stop recording at any time

Edit: A second last note I just reminded - Playing in Long Standard notation will make the game quite slower, because it has to do more checks...for check Razz . It has to see if the opponent king will be in check after the player move, so it can put the + in the line; this is not required in descriptive notation, it will only see if the enemy king is in check in the beginning of its turn.

Error 20 370? I cant imagine how you get such an error :- Try deleting the INI file.... yourwindowspath\ymsysgrd.dat before starting the game

That did the trick. Now I'm in.... Just took it for a quick spin - looks better now.

Put the updated tileset in your mail.
