|
|
Hi everyone,
What do you all think of a "mini-chat" box on the forum pages? This could
allow some "less-formal chat" go on between the users and bring the
community closer.
It would either have to be in an IFRAME (in-line frame) or there could
be a link.
Anyone have any input on this?
This thread is temporarily in the news/announcements forum to get the
most attention. _________________ FreezingFire

Hmmmm. Sounds intriguing FF. A good idea methinks but how
doable is it?

More convenient than IRC or IM for a community chat.

Nice Idea if it's feasible and pose no security threats to forum. _________________ Regards

Or, if somebody has a Windows server 24/7 running, we could create our own chat program It isn't to hard, I think...
EDIT: Isn't it possible to let the server run at the dialogscript.com server? I thought they where running a windows server...

Good idea , but if we make a program, people probably won't use it , it
has to be very convenient. _________________ FreezingFire

Yeah, that's true... But it must be posibble; the most difficult part is the creating of a reliable protocol
As soon as I received my registration key for vdsipp.dll, I'll start working at something.

I've been to some sites that use java based chat. This is
prolly easiest for users, and I think there's some free ones.
Not sure about security issues though.

I think a PHP/MySQL server-side based chat system integrated directly
into the forums would be best... I had a script from hotscripts.com in mind
the other day but I haven't had time yet to implement a test. _________________ FreezingFire

don't like that much it would be better if it was an option for folks to use...if it is easy to do and quick and folks have a reason to use it, then they will use it...i think that we can also expect a number of folks not to want to use it for whatever reasons...there is a difference between "chatting" online and posting to a forum
