Hi everyone,

What do you all think of a "mini-chat" box on the forum pages? This could
allow some "less-formal chat" go on between the users and bring the
community closer.

It would either have to be in an IFRAME (in-line frame) or there could
be a link.

Anyone have any input on this?

This thread is temporarily in the news/announcements forum to get the
most attention.

More convenient than IRC or IM for a community chat.

Or, if somebody has a Windows server 24/7 running, we could create our own chat program Wink It isn't to hard, I think...

EDIT: Isn't it possible to let the server run at the dialogscript.com server? I thought they where running a windows server...

Good idea Very Happy , but if we make a program, people probably won't use it Sad , it
has to be very convenient.

Yeah, that's true... But it must be posibble; the most difficult part is the creating of a reliable protocol Smile

As soon as I received my registration key for vdsipp.dll, I'll start working at something.

Regards,
Vic

And we need something that the program will startup automaticly when people browse the forum, so that we 'force' them to use it... Smile

I've been to some sites that use java based chat. This is
prolly easiest for users, and I think there's some free ones.

Not sure about security issues though.

Cheers, Mac Smile

I think a PHP/MySQL server-side based chat system integrated directly
into the forums would be best... I had a script from hotscripts.com in mind
the other day but I haven't had time yet to implement a test. Smile

don't like that much Sad it would be better if it was an option for folks to use...if it is easy to do and quick and folks have a reason to use it, then they will use it...i think that we can also expect a number of folks not to want to use it for whatever reasons...there is a difference between "chatting" online and posting to a forum Smile
