I have a couple of questions regarding the VDSIPP.DLL:

  • When data is posted, what is the name of the variable. For example, if you are using
    $HTTP_POST_VARS['<<what goes here?>>']; in PHP.
  • Is it capable of HTTP GETting files with a four-letter extension?

Thanks. Very Happy

Hi FreezingFire,

If you post something, like index.php?topic=412, you can get the answer with the $HTTP_POST_VARS['topic'] variable.
The answer to your second question: Of course! You can download .HTML (and other files) just like three-letter extensions...

I was not thinking when I asked the second question. However: The
example URL is not POSTING, rather it is using the GET command.
You can use the GET command in a web form, for example. In fact,
the actual code that the reply page on the forum is using right now is
using the POST command.

Code:
<form action="posting.php" method="post" name="post">

It uses the posting.php and not something like
posting.php?message=The message here.

My question is: when you use the HTTP POST command in the vdsipp.dll,
you can post a string/file to a script. What name does the DLL use when
posting?

Have you tried something like this:
Code:
INTERNET HTTP,POST,1,http://www.website.com/script.php,?name=Bill&Lastname=Gates&Company=Microsoft

I haven't tried it yet but I think that could be the way to go.
I'll try it tomorrow.

And posting a file could be something like this:
Code:
INTERNET HTTP,POST,1,http://www.website.com/script.php,?file=c:\filename.txt

Hi FreezingFire,
Here is the exact excerpt from the help file:

Code:

INTERNET HTTP,POST,<http client>,<url>,<string/filename>
This command allows you to use the HTTP POST method to send information to a CGI script located on the internet.  You usually use the POST method when filling out forms on the internet.  The <url> parameter specifies the location of the cgi-script file (example: http://www.vdsworld.com:80/whatever.cgi).  The <string/filename> allows you to post either a string of information or a file to the cgi-script.  If you want to post a file, you must specify the full path to the local file (example: c:\windows\desktop\file.txt).

Basically the filename portion is the same thing as passing variables, such as whatever.pl?var1=hello&var2=ok&var3=24343.

This allows you to just pass a file name which contains the ? and the variables after it. Which is handy when needing to pass a ton of variables to a perl/php script.

INTERNET HTTP, POST, 1,http://www.whatever.com/upload.cgi,c:\windows\desktop\myvars.txt

But, keep in mind that the ammount of data passed through the HTTP header is very limited.

Thanks... Smile
I'm not sure if it was my misunderstanding or if I am missing something
in the help file. Confused

I'm not sure how much you know about PHP, but strings to be posted are a bunch of textstrings using the POST command like this ?name=blabla&test=blabla

Yes... I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking about how posting really works. Sad
