While in the process of checking the correspondence between the VDS source code and the help file, I found an undocumented dialog element. Don't get too excited, but try this:

As far as I can tell, it is completely useless, as there appears to be no code to get information into or out of it. I presume it was put there during the SADE era, as I had no knowledge of it, so I presume it is in VDS 4, and possibly even in VDS 3!

"COLORGRID" doesn't seem to be in VDS 3...

They would because it's just a windowed control and the functions don't need to know anything about it. But there is no code to set and get the selected colors anywhere in the VDS runtime. Perhaps the API wizards will come up with an API way of doing it. I guess it's just a matter of finding the right message to send to the window's handle.

I can either leave it in and make it useable, or take it out altogether. Personally, I'm not sure it's really worth the 8K overhead. For the number of occasions it might be useful, you could achieve the same end using a set of colored bitmaps.
Mind you, much could be said of many of the things SADE added. Whoever uses the TIME element? Or ANIICON? There is a ton of more generally useful dialog elements that could have been added. It's largely a matter of personal interest, I guess.
Now might be a good time to start a thread under Wishlist about what would be good new dialog elements to have, and what not.

Having seen Mac's bar chart example, I'll change that to "a set of colored text elements."

| I sold the vdselm extension along time ago to SADE along with source. It looks like alot of the old vdselm extensions elements were taken out of the code and put directly into vds. Much of these elements - time, colorgrid, aniicon were in the vdselm. I think you may be able to set the foreground and background color of the colorgrid by assigning a STYLE to the colorgrid, the style of course has to specify those two colors. |

I donno if I'm going to ever use it, but something that I would really like
to see natively in VDS instead of a colorgrid is a colorcombo box.
I would use the TIME element if it let you take its border away.

(using text elements) a while back...

Ah. I didn't try that. But for it to be useful, you need to be able to click on a box with the right or left mouse button, to choose a background or foreground color, and get the result. Clicking generates an event, but the support for this element in the @dlgtext function has been missed out.
